Marco Rubio Blasts Senate vote on Health Care

RUBIO COMMENTS ON SENATE HEALTH CARE VOTE

Miami, FL – U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio issued the following statement regarding this morning’s Senate approval of health care legislation:

“2009 will long be remembered as the year when President Obama, congressional Democrats and their allies condemned future generations of Americans to crippling debt and a more heavy-handed government. This year began with the $787 billion stimulus and now ends with the Senate ramming through a disastrous 2700-page health care bill that our nation cannot afford. The fact that this bill was passed on Christmas Eve, when people are focused on the holidays, is a telling sign of how empty the promises of a so-called new era of politics were all along.

“What transpired in Washington this year and especially during this health care debate is nothing short of big government run amok. In their quest to pass a bill by any means necessary, Democrats have relied on the worst elements of the legislative process and proven there is no price they aren’t willing to pay. In their push to ram through these misguided policies, President Obama, Senate Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi have shown no regard for the unexceptional future they are threatening to leave our children and grandchildren.

“At a time when families are gathering to celebrate the holidays, today’s disturbing vote is a sobering reminder of why Florida needs a voice in the U.S. Senate that will stand up to policies like this health care nightmare-in-the-making. We simply cannot afford the Obama agenda to be pushed through without a fight now and in the coming years.”
