Marco Rubio Adresses America's Debt Crisis

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement by Standard & Poor’s that it has cut its credit outlook on the U.S. to negative:

“How many more warning signs will it take for Washington to realize we are facing a debt crisis that will ruin America?

“Today, it’s a major credit rating agency like S&P bluntly saying they don’t believe Washington politicians have the fortitude to get serious about our debt. This will send even more entrepreneurs running for the hills and taking their best ideas with them as investment capital becomes more elusive. Eventually, the specter of higher inflation will erode the dollar, diminish consumer spending power, and make it harder for families to buy cars and homes or pay tuition. And before you know it, we will have lost the essence of what has made America exceptional for centuries. None of these scenarios are a question of ‘if,’ but rather a question of ‘when,’ unless we act now.

“Americans should be sickened by today’s announcement and Washington’s failure to make solving our debt crisis our number one priority. Contrary to the carefree attitude too many Washington politicians have, we can’t just snap our fingers and make this go away. Instead, we need to rally behind a clear set of policies that will create jobs through tax and regulatory reform, save our social safety net and national defense priorities, and show the world that America is serious about its debt and has adopted a credible plan to tackle it.”

I guess this may be one of the last posts I produce on this site. It has been an honor and a pleasure to provide updates and information to those who support Florida senatorial candidate Marco Rubio. I hope I have helped you in deciding to vote for him.

I first heard of Rubio in early 2009 and was fortunate enough to be attending a conference in June of 2009 where Rubio spoke to a large crowd of attendees about his vision for Florida and for the entire nation. He was basically a newly minted candidate and was way behind in the polls. He overcame the opposition with fresh ideas, principles, integrity, and the message that America is an exceptional nation that deserves the kind of leader that will preserve it's greatness.

Marco Rubio releases statement upon the death of his Father

Last night Marco Rubio released a statement regarding the death of his Father.
Mario Rubio was 83:

“My father knew hard work and struggle from very early in his life. His mother died when he was only 9 years old. The day after his mother was buried he went to work with his father and did not stop working until he was 78 years old.

“He was by far the most unselfish person I have ever known, always focused on others, and never on his own well being. He was especially determined to provide his children opportunities he himself never had.
“My dad worked as a street vendor, security guard, apartment building manager and crossing guard. But for most of his life he was a bartender, and by all accounts a great one. But his greatest success came from the two most important jobs he ever had: husband and father.

“He was very proud of my public service. And over the last 18 months he became an expert channel surfer, constantly searching for my next television interview.
“I was blessed to be raised by a world class father. And I thank God for allowing my father to live long and healthy enough to see that the sacrifices he made for us were not in vain.”

I remember this video of Marco Rubio recalling the relationship between himself and his Father and it reminded me very much of the one between my Father and myself.

RUBIO: “The second idea that we had is allowing and empowering individual every day Americans and businesses to specifically go after the debt themselves through their own tax returns.

“What does that mean? It’s pretty simple. You put a check-off box at the top of everyone’s tax returns. If you check that box off, you can designate that up to 10 percent of your tax dollars – the money you’re paying that year in taxes – go directly to debt retirement.

“Two things would happen. Number one: that money you’re designating is now protected from spending. In essence, politicians in Washington are not going to be able to get a hold of that money and use it to grow government. It must be used to pay down debt.

Marco Rubio Shatters Fundraising Record

Florida senatorial candidate Marco Rubio announced today that his campaign has received more than $4.5 million dollars in campaign contributions for the 2nd Quarter.

This is a new national record for a senatorial candidate.

I just left a Blogger conference call held by the Rubio campaign in which they covered several important issues and confirmed to Hotair's Ed Morrissey that the fundraising totals were indeed correct.

Over 75,000 donors have contributed to Rubio's campaign.
99% of the donors have not maxed out their ability to contribute.
The average contribution is $85.50.
Pretty impressive stuff.

Among the other issues discussed were the Deep Water Horizon oil spill and it's affect on Florida.

Rubio was asked whether he thought that Florida's Governor Charlie Crist was leveraging his office for political gain in regard to the oil spill. Rubio said , "It's indisputable." He went on say, "We can not use Northwest Florida as a prop."

Rubio said that he would soon release major proposals focusing on the economy. The proposals will include those designed to grow the economy, create new jobs, and promote new industries.

Fox News' Megyn Kelly discusses Florida Governor Charlie Crist's refusal to return the campaign donations made to him during his run for US senate as a republican.

Crist continued to accept donations late in to his primary campaign by claiming that he would NOT switch parties.

Crist strongly expressed his determination to remain a republican in his now infamous appearance on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. Here is the video of Crist lying to voters.

Crist was being stomped by his rival, former Florida house speaker, republican Marco Rubio.

Crist was more than 20 points down in the polls when he decided that he was no longer a "Reagan Republican" and would run as an Independent. That was just weeks after his appearance on Fox News Sunday. He then decided it was OK to keep the cash of those that believed his lies. Crist, I'm gonna KEEP IT!

Charlie Crist: The oil spill is just a Nuisance

Florida's Governor Charlie Crist conducted an interview with CBS News' anchor Harry Smith on Pensacola Beach on Monday.

During the interview, Smith asks Crist if he is concerned that the Gulf oil spill may be making the water toxic.

Crist's response?

"It's much more of a nuisance than it is anything else right now."

Crist goes on to say that the spill itself was a catastrophe.

However, if you recall, I recently posted a quote from Charlie Crist stating that the oil spill wasn't as if "the sky is falling"

It seems that Crist has developed the same attitude as the Obama administration when it come to dealing the oil spill.

Charlie Crist: Oil Spill? "It's not like the sky is falling.

As unbelievable as it may seem, Reuters has reported that Florida Governor Charlie Crist does not seem too concerned about the Gulf Oil spill.

"We don't want to take the 'sky is falling' attitude about this," Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said on Wednesday, standing on a white sand beach in Pensacola marred by tar balls.

"We want to see it, we want to address it, we want to clean it up and stay after it," Crist said.

Crist needs to tell that to the thousands of families in Northwest Florida who's lives have been affected the spill.

Crist is happy to take advantage of a photo op with Obama (with whom he seems to agree). He talks about tourism and the fishing industry in Florida. Yet he seems to want to deal with the oil later. Perhaps it is disrupting his campaign and he thinks he has milked it for every penny he can.

"We want to see it...?"

What the hell does that mean!?

Instead of DEMANDING more skimmers to prevent the oil from reaching Florida's beaches, Crist is taking it as political opportunity to suck up to Obama in hopes of generating support for his senate campaign.

I thought Crist had scraped the bottom in contemptible behavior!
I was wrong.

Charlie Crist Claims "Hundreds of Thousands" of Jobs SAVED in Florida

Florida Governor Charlie Crist will say ANYTHING to get himself elected as Florida's next US senator.

Often within weeks of positing a position on issue "A" he reverses himself and chooses position "B" on the same issue.

This habit is well documented even in the "Main Stream Media".

Changing a position for political expediency is one thing. But to just flat out lie by making up the facts as you go along seems somewhat pathological.

Charlie Crist has done just that.

His official website claims that the Obama stimulus saved 80 thousand Florida jobs. Crist was the only Republican Governor to endorse Obama's plan.

"Governor Crist wisely utilized stimulus funding, making sure federal taxes paid by Floridians returned home to the Sunshine State. Because of Governor Crist’s leadership, over 20,000 teachers’ positions and 60,000 additional jobs throughout our state were saved, while important infrastructure projects were started."

Yet during his recent interview with Time, Crist clearly states that the stimulus saved "Hundreds of Thousands" of Florida jobs.

Winning the Gold in the Flip-Flop competition is nothing new for Florida's Governor Charlie Crist these days. He has more "positions" than a Master Yoga instructor when it comes to whether to drill for oil off the coast of Florida.

Here is the latest in a bizarre transformation designed exclusively for the purpose of political expediency!

He takes the Gold Medal with a FLIP-FLOP-FLIP!! Spectacular...

"I don't think it's [Drilling] good for Florida," Crist said. "I have enormous, enormous respect for the governor [Jeb Bush], as you know. But we just disagree on this issue."

Florida's once-solid bipartisan opposition to drilling in the Gulf of Mexico shattered Tuesday when Gov. Charlie Crist reversed course and said the state may have to allow drilling to help lower gasoline prices.

Crist was among the Republicans expressing support for Sen. John McCain's call for lifting the federal moratorium along the Outer Continental Shelf and giving states a share of petroleum revenues as an incentive for them to allow oil and gas drilling off their coasts.

Crist continued his support until he decided to run as an Independent.

As a Republican senatorial candidate Crist said on his official website 2010:

Florida should have the ability to explore natural resources off our coastline...

Then Crist decided to run as an Independent. Without knowing what his own core principles were, he changed his mind again after the Deep Water Horizon spill and decided that banning drilling was a good thing.

So in less than five years Charlie Crist has made up , or changed, his mind three times.

Florida senatorial candidate Charlie Crist seems to change his mind along with his socks. (If he wears any).

With the disaster of the BP Gulf oil spill, Crist has again taken an opportunity to become politically expedient on an issue that not only faces Florida but the entire nation.

I was curious about Crist's position on off shore drilling so I visited his senatorial election campaign website.

This is where I captured a "screen shot" of his position on drilling off of the coast of Florida. It was in the "drop down" menu under the heading "Energy" which has now been removed. Here it is:

But now that the spill has occurred, Charlie is suddenly calling for a BAN on offshore drilling. The screen capture above was available less than a day ago.

When I went to the site today, I was surprised to find that it had disappeared along with many other positions that Charlie Crist once held. There is plenty of time to get to those later.

Under a "NEW" heading in the "Issues" menu you will find "Charlie Crist on Offshore Drilling". It is a complete 180 from his previous position and is what Floridians have come to expect from a Flip-Flopping pandering Governor that will say or do anything to get elected. Here is his new position:

Charlie Crist has no principles. If you believe Michael Putney he also has "no judgement or cajones".

Charlie Crist said on his senatorial website:

"This dependency(on foreign oil) results in over $700 Billion being sent overseas to countries that hate America and kill our men and women in uniform."

Now he cant decide for HIMSELF whether this is true or not...

In other words. When Charlie Crist reversed his opinion on drilling (twice), he decided that the troops were no longer an issue that he was concerned about. Get it? It's all about Charlie.

Jim Greer is the recently arrested former head of the Florida Republican Party. Greer was arrested at his home last week by Federal officials and charged on six counts of theft.

Current Florida Governor and (former republican) Charlie Crist is now running as an Independent for the Florida senate against republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Kendrick Meek.

Greer's lawyer has just implicated Charlie Crist by saying that he (Charlie Crist) was aware of the "arrangement".

This story just "got legs"!

Florida republican senatorial candidate Marco Rubio has penned a tough editorial against the "Washington Establishment" at Townhall.com today.

In the article entitled "An Idea-Based Conservative Future". Rubio rails against the business as usual attitude prevailing in the nations capital. He blasts the uncontrolled spending as he offers solutions to a system that seems to be out of control.

America’s proud legacy of limited government, free enterprise and personal responsibility is under assault in Washington in the form of Obamacare, the so-called stimulus and cap and trade. Washington is broken, and there’s a fundamental question voters must ask themselves this election year: Who do you trust to fix it?...

So what do we do to avoid their fate? Here are some commonsense ideas that will help reverse the trend we are on and put us back on the right track:

First, we should freeze non-defense and non-veteran discretionary spending at pre-Obama levels. Though it’s a relatively small part of the budget, non-defense and non-veteran discretionary spending has ballooned in recent years and must be brought under control. We should cancel the unspent stimulus funds, repeal a TARP program that has evolved into a revolving bailout and slush fund, and sunset discretionary spending programs every 10 years after the Census. This will force our political leaders to evaluate the success and cost effectiveness of each and every government program on a regular basis. Lastly, we must also rein in the size and compensation of federal government workers. We need a freeze on civilian employment and adjust their pay and benefits, which are now some 70% higher than their private sector counterparts...

Bush, still popular and influential with Florida Republicans, has long been rumored to be a Rubio backer, but his endorsement comes less than a week after Gov. Charlie crist decided to run as an independent rather than face Rubio in the GOP primary.

Bush says Rubio is a passionate, principled leader who wouldn't change his views when political winds shift.

The Rubio campaign released the following soon after the announcement:

Miami, FL – Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush today endorsed Marco Rubio for U.S. Senate. The two will campaign together for the first time this Friday night at the Pasco County Reagan Day Dinner.

Charlie Crist Under Investigation by the FBI

Apparently the FBI and IRS are interested in the campaign affairs of current Florida Governor Charlie Crist.

Crist, who is in the battle of his political life, is currently running against conservative republican Marco Rubio for the US senate seat vacated by former senator Mel Martinez.

According to recent reports, the FBI AND the IRS are interested in finding out if Crist is guilty of co-mingling state GOP funds with personal expenditures.

The Hill Blog reports:

Federal investigators are probing the Senate campaign of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) to see if it improperly co-mingled state GOP funds with personal expenditures, according to a report Thursday.

The FBI, IRS and U.S. Attorney's office have opened a preliminary investigation into the Republican Party of Florida to see if credit cards it issued to staffers and officials were used for improper personal expenses.

The Hills story is just the latest in the seemingly inivisble thread of possible wrongdoing by Charlie Crist and his hand picked Chairman Jim Greer. (Greer was forced to resign).

"They had Jim Greer's travel expense records and wanted me to react to some of the issues surrounding that debacle. ... There wasn't one single question asked about Marco Rubio. There were a lot of questions asked about Jim Greer, (former party executive director) Delmar Johnson, Victory Strategies (the Johnson/Greer company paid by the party) and the (Greer) 527,'' said Hoffman, who recently asked Charlie Crist to refund his contributions and who expects to help Rubio. "Definitely they asked about the relationship between the Crist campaign and the party, relative to the co-mingling of funds. ... I believe they're after any federal election law violations, tax avoidance issues, and criminal fraud."

With all of the chicanery going on in the Crist administration it is shocking to me that the "Media" are focusing so much on the Marco Rubio campaign. Rubio is a private citizen. Charlie Crist is a sitting Governor of one of the largest states.

Yet stories reported as long ago (in politcal time) as March 25th about Crist's dubious spending are ignored.

On Wednesday, the Crist campaign acknowledged, for instance, that ousted former state party chairman Jim Greer was the first person to reach out to the woman Crist hired as his campaign communications director. The party charged more than $1,000 on the state GOP's credit card to fly Andrea Saul down to a Crist campaign meeting in Orlando in October.

"The reason Marco Rubio is the next United States senator is because Jim Greer turned the Republican Party of Florida into the Republican Party of Charlie Crist," said Pinellas Republican state committeeman Tony DiMatteo, recounting the grass roots outcry when Greer tried to invoke an arcane party rule to formally endorse Crist.
The Crist campaign also reported nearly $17,000 in "reimbursement" to the state party's credit card, which three experts called a potential violation of federal campaign finance law. State parties are not allowed to contribute, advance or loan a federal candidate more than $5,000 in a primary.
Even if the Crist campaign promptly paid off the party's credit card charge "the Federal Election Commission would likely find that an advance in excess of $5,000 resulted in an excessive contribution," said Washington lawyer Chris Gober, a former general counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Marco Rubio had 16K in personal expenses. He paid for his personal expenses directly to American Express at the time he received his statements.

This just aint right! Crist deserves scrutiny and he is getting a pass.

Charlie Crist's Pathetic Campaign Stunt Backfires

In an obvious attempt to circumvent the "announced" and scheduled arrival of Marco Rubio at an event at "The Villages, Gov Charlie Crist shows up unexpectedly with reporters in tow.

Unfortunately for Charlie, his visit was not well received. Most of the Villagers interviewed supported Marco Rubio. Rubio's appearance has been scheduled for weeks and will coincide with his four day bus tour throughout the state. Rubio will be joining talk show radio host and FOX news celebrity Sean Hannity for the event on April 13th.

This is such a desperate and pathetic move by Crist that one wonders what his campaign advisors hoped to achieve. It is pointed out several times by the Villagers that they had no idea Crist was going to be there. Charlie tried to hijack an existing crowd in a popular Square at the Villages and started handing out stickers. One resident voiced her opinion of Crist:

But not everyone at The Villages was convinced that Crist was the stronger Republican candidate. Villages resident Jo Tripaldi, 63, an independent, said she believed Rubio was more of a conservative candidate fit for the Republican Party.

"I believe he's not as conservative. I think what Charlie is doing is he is flip-flopping," Tripaldi said about Crist after she met him and placed a Crist sticker on her shirt. "He was very friendly. I had no idea he was going to be here. He's going to have such a terrific crowd and it had nothing to do with him."

I would of thought that 10 million dollars in campaign contributions could have provided a better platform than that. The problem with Charlie is that he has NO message and can't decide where he stands on any issues except that he is glad he endorsed Obama's stimulus bill. (Oh wait, he waffled on that too). So I guess I was right the first time.

On Sunday March 28th, Marco Rubio and Charlie Crist will sit side-by-side on the set of the popular Sunday talk show Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. There are no rules and the event may consume the entire hour of the program.

Recent polls show Rubio with a double digit lead over sitting Governor Charlie Crist in his bid to become Florida's next US senator. That is the complete opposite from the way the polls looked as early as last summer.

Rubio spokesman Alex Burgos told me:

Format is Sunday Show-talk style. The debate will take place in FOX's DC Bureau, where the FOX News Sunday set is located. There will be no audience, and it is expected to last most if not all of the show (with some commercial breaks).

I attended the Marco Rubio event in Jacksonville Beach yesterday and was happy to see hundreds of people coming out to support Marco. (photos below)

There were more than 300 people there. I know because I counted seats. (And all the standing people AND the people literally standing outside the door.

He had to stop, to sometimes-standing applause, as he reaffirmed his position against government-run health care, accused Washington of dismantling the free market system and said Americans are within plain sight of losing everything that makes the nation great.

The Rubio campaign wasted little time in panning rival Charlie Crist for his State of the State address in Florida today. Crist was given a standing ovation by Democrats for his support of Obama's 787 billion dollar stimulus plan. Republicans actually BOOed him.

It really sounded like Crist was touting democrat policies with more and more spending. No mention of where he would find the money to pay for everything he proposed.

Crist’s Stimulus Support ‘Unforgivable’ and Reckless [Marco Rubio]

I continue to be disappointed by Charlie Crist’s unwillingness to acknowledge how his support for massive, unrestrained, and reckless federal spending is inflicting long-lasting damage on our economy.

Last year, Republicans and Democrats debated the best course of action for re-igniting America’s economy. While Republicans were advocating for targeted efforts based on broad-based tax relief and spending reforms, Charlie Crist ignored those efforts, instead siding with Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats in favor of the largest spending bill in American history. That bill added more than one trillion dollars to our national debt and raised the debt ceiling. This is a debt our children and grandchildren will inherit.

Our nation’s debt has exploded so rapidly that it is threatening our standing in the world, while significantly diminishing the options policymakers have to address the looming over-leveraging crisis facing our country.

In many ways, the stimulus is emblematic of Washington at its worst and underscores the differences between me and my opponent. Charlie Crist remains a leading voice in support of a stimulus that was falsely sold to the American people as a job creator, was rushed through the legislative process with little chance for review or revision, and was loaded with special-interest pork that will do nothing to help the 1.1 million Floridians who are without work.

Now, after a year in which independent analysis has proven its failure to meet the objectives under which it was sold, those in Washington and around the country who committed America to this failed policy continue to place their political careers above the best interests of our country.

The differences between my opponent and me on the stimulus and on the virtues of limited government versus a heavy-handed, big-spending government represent the defining issues of this campaign. Although Charlie Crist’s support for big government policies has diminished his standing with Floridians who believe in the free enterprise system, I hope it won’t continue driving him to the desperate measures we’ve seen from him lately in a vain attempt to change the subject.

Floridians deserve a serious debate on the major issues and challenges of our time, and I hope Governor Crist will engage in this kind of campaign moving forward.

Charlie Crist Booed at CPAC10 while Rubio Receives Standing O

Current Florida Governor ,US Senatorial candidate, and moderate Charlie Crist was booed at the 2010 CPAC conference in Washington DC yesterday.

The boos occurred during the introduction of Crist's rival, conservative republican Marco Rubio.When DeMint happended to mention Crist's name, the BOOS began. DeMint proceeded to introduce Rubio as the Keynote Speaker for the first day of the event.

Being booed at CPAC is not new for Crist. Crist was also booed at last years CPAC event as well. Something tells me that conservatives do not have warm fuzzy feelings for Crist.

The Rubio campaign wasted no time in responding to Charlie Crist's Valentines campaign email to his subscribers.

Conservative author and talk radio host Mark Levin "goes off" on current Florida Governor Charlie Crist for comparing himself to Ronald Reagan.

Moderate republican Charlie Crist is running for the Florida US senate seat vacated by Mel Martinez. He is running against the more conservative former House Speaker Marco Rubio in the republican primary.

Recently, Marco Rubio moved out to a 12 point lead.

Crist has recently started moving towards the center and often trying to compare himself to former President Ronald Reagan. Apparently this does not sit well Mark Levin.

Levin worked in the Reagan administration so I assume he knows of what he speaks. Levin believes that Crist is better compared to Arlen Spector and goes on to say that Marco Rubio IS Reagan-like.

Why is a seasoned politician and sitting Governor afraid to debate a former House Speaker? Maybe he can't decide what he believes in or even knows.

Marco Rubio announced plans for a major new e-campaign project during a conference call with bloggers this morning. He is lauching what spokesman Alex Burgos calls a Stimulus Money Bomb. The Goal? 787 Thousand dollars by Feb 10th. The site will be launched sometime today. It is a huge goal but they feel it can be reached. This campaign is separate from the "money bomb" currently being run by the Senate Conservatives Fund.

The Rubio campaign is confident that they reach this goal by Febuary 10th.

Marco Rubio Now Leads Crist in Florida by 3 Points

The latest Quinnipiac poll has Marco Rubio leading current Governor Charlie Crist by 3 points 47-44 in the Florida senatorial primary race.

According to Real Clear Politics , Crist once led by as much as 37 points against Rubio. Those high-flying numbers have dropped dramatically over the past seven months.

Rubio has yet to release last quarters fundraising numbers but now that number now seems as important as ever.

Jacksonville's WOKV radio contacted the pollster early this morning for some analysis of the data surrounding the new poll. Here is the audio of that interview. Marco Rubio: I am NOT a Tea Party Senator-I am a Republican

During yesterdays interview with Florida senatorial candidate Marco Rubio, CNBC's Larry Kudlow continued to associate Marco Rubio (R) to the "Tea Party" movement.
Even going so far as to call him a Tea Party Senator. The exchange takes place starting just before the 4:20 mark of the video below.

Kudlow: ...as a Tea Party Senator how would you deal with it?...

Rubio: ...Let me back you up on that for just a second. When you talk about the Tea Party- I am a Republican.

There is a growing trend in the MSM to vilify tea party goers as extremists, radicals, birthers, racist and the list goes on.

I am none of the above and I attended the 912 March on Washington. I was there because I do NOT want big Government, higher taxes, and government health care. I was joined by about a million other Americans that feel the same way. I was not paid to be there and neither were they.

I was there to support freedom.

Marco Rubio is NOT a Tea Party senator or candidate. He is a republican that believes in the principles of the founding Fathers. IF some of those priciples are reflected by the Tea Party movement, then so be it. You can't paint with a broad brush when trying to define the Tea Party movement.

The Rubio campaign issued a press release today that supports Florida Gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum’s oppositon to Obamacare based on constituional grounds.

Rubio had already expressed his opposition to the healthcare plan on Chrismas eve.

"What transpired in Washington this year and especially during this health care debate is nothing short of big government run amok. In their quest to pass a bill by any means necessary, Democrats have relied on the worst elements of the legislative process and proven there is no price they aren’t willing to pay. In their push to ram through these misguided policies, President Obama, Senate Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi have shown no regard for the unexceptional future they are threatening to leave our children and grandchildren."

Today the Rubio campaign released the following statement regarding the issue.

Attorney General Bill McCollum’s efforts to challenge the constitutionality of federal health care legislation:

“I commend Attorney General McCollum’s pre-emptive effort to clean up the mess federal health care legislation stands to make if it becomes law. In the video attached to the story above, Charlie Crist says, "And the most important point I want to make about this project is Jobs Jobs Jobs." It's at the 20-25 second mark.

Fast forward to today when I saw this video demonstrating the "network" of talking points used by the Democrats to get their message out . It is used on both sides and can be effective at times.

Unfortunately for Charlie Crist he decided to use the memo that he most favors. The Democrats!

Perhaps Charlie became "confused" again.

Crist Headed to a 20 Point Defeat?

During a special broadcast on WOKV radio in Jacksonville Florida today, host Jared Halpern interviewed Mason-Dixon pollster Brad Coker about the 2010 Florida senate race bewtween Marco Rubio and current Governor Charlie Crist.

During the interview Coker predicted a possible 20 point loss for Crist.

The last Mason-Dixon poll for the Florida senate race was in June and showed a 28 point lead for Crist.

A more recent poll from Rasmussen reports shows the race tied at 43-43

I don't know how Coker came up with the number of a 20 point loss by Crist but I find it "interesting".
I am not a pollster so perhaps I have to rely on the "instincts" of someone on the inside of the business.

The reference to a Crist loss comes just after the 2 minute mark of the audio below after a short commercial:

Charlie Crist does not deserve a chance to represent Florida in the US senate if he does not debate challenger Marco Rubio.

Crist started the race above 50% in the polls and Rubio started in single digits. Now that the race is tied 43-43 its time for Crist to give Rubio the respect he deserves.

If he doesn't, it proves he has something to hide. Rubio has repeatedly called for debates and Crist is running out of reasons to say no.

It was just a matter of time before Florida's former House Speaker Marco Rubio proved that Floridians are tired of the same old RINO politics of the past and would stand behind a truly prinicpled conservative.

According to the latest Rasmussen poll released tonight. Rubio and Crist are tied. This has got to put the Crist camp in a tizzy. There are still 8 months to go before the primary election but I am positve that Crist NEVER expected such a tremendous challenge.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely GOP Primary voters finds Crist and Rubio each with 43% of the vote. Five percent (5%) prefer another candidate, and nine percent (9%) are undecided.

The next poll will show Rubio ahead of Crist in my opinion.

Current Florida senatorial candidate and former Speaker of the House Marco Rubio has penned an article in Orlando Sentinel regarding health care.

Here's a better way to reform health care

When the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed its health-care bill, it brought America one step closer to merging our nation's health system with an intrusive, heavy-handed government.

Although Democrats hailed this bill as health-care reform, it is really just the architecture for what will one day become a government-run, single-payer system. With a price tag estimated to be more than $1 trillion, it also shows Washington Democrats have no plans to curb their runaway spending.

As the debate shifts to the Senate, the prospects of an improved bill don't appear likely. The $849 billion bill currently being considered is equally alarming with its unhealthy prescription of higher taxes on the middle class and small businesses, higher premiums and fees, increased regulation through individual mandates and penalties, and more government-run bureaucracy that will undermine the patient-doctor relationship.

The bill also would expand a financially unsustainable Medicaid entitlement program that is already straining state budgets. And it would fundamentally hurt Medicare by taking away access to Medicare Advantage plans and installing a new government bureaucracy to oversee Medicare reimbursements.

Altogether, these so-called reforms would hurt the ability of Americans to keep the coverage they are satisfied with, threaten the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship and bring the nation closer to a single-payer system. Americans deserve better.

As the Senate opens debate on its own health-care bill, it should reassess the underlying problems facing our system today. For starters, we must accurately diagnose the problem. America does not have a health-care problem. But America does have a health-insurance problem; not enough affordable choices exist while costs continue to rise.

As a result, millions of Americans do not have health insurance because they have either lost their jobs or because the private market cannot offer more options that meet their unique needs at prices they can afford.

Thus, any solution should ultimately seek to promote a vibrant private market where individuals can buy health insurance the way we buy auto insurance — independent of our employer, with the kind of flexibility and coverage we need, and at affordable prices.

What American health care needs today are reforms that promote competition, empower patients with more high-quality health-care options, combat fraud and integrate the latest technologies to make the system more efficient and the patient better informed.

Any health-care bill should reject a government-run public option. It should instead strive to make health care portable, make medical expenses tax-deductible, incentivize health-savings accounts and allow small businesses to band together through association health plans that help them get the same discounts larger businesses have. Allowing people to buy insurance across state lines will also help lower premiums by offering people more choices.

We must insist on a bill that features medical-liability reform that will reduce frivolous lawsuits. By not having to operate under the constant threat of lawsuit abuse, doctors will no longer feel forced to order unnecessary tests and procedures that drive up wasteful health-care spending.

As the health-care debate proceeds, we must never forget that our nation has the world's most formidable health-care innovators and professionals who are helping Americans lead longer and healthier lives. They, not government bureaucrats, are best equipped to meet the needs of patients.

President Obama and the Democrat Congress should abandon their current path toward a government-run, single-payer system and instead pursue common-sense reforms that will truly reduce costs, increase options and leave doctors and patients in charge of a health-care system that serves as a shining example that the rest of the world's health-care systems strive to emulate.

Somehow Charlie Crist manages to insult the base of the Florida Republican Party and Ronald Reagan during the same interview. All the while reinforcing the support of his opponent Marco Rubio.

Crist: "Campaigns thank God are an educational opportunity. During the course of the next nine months or so we will strive to lay out a very good education...I believe in Reagan's 11th Commandment- thou shall not speak ill of a fellow Republican - but I also think you need to be honest and truthful and make sure that before people go to the ballot box they have a good opportunity to be well-informed."

Notice that Crist said "...we will strive to lay out a very good education...(for voters).Here is what Marco Rubio thinks abouth the fact that Crist thinks voters are stupid and unimformed.

CRIST:"There are a lot of Republicans that don't have the inclination to go to executive committee meetings,'' he said.

That is an obvious reference to the FACT that he has lost 14 straw polls in a row by HUGE margins.

Crist:"There is wide swath of republican voters out there that don't necessarily listen to cable tv all the time."

That is an obvious swipe at Fox news and the Tea Party movement.

When will Charlie Crist Quit his Senate Race

There is a strange lack of miscues on the part of the Crist campaign over the past week and an equally strange lack of valid criticism of Crist from the Rubio campaign.

Something is up!! We just dont know what it is yet...

As of today, I think Crist will quit his senate bid and claim that he is doing it for the "good of the party" and will run for Gov again. (Which he will win)

Crist has lost 14 state straw polls in a row (by huge margins) and Marco Rubio has gained the support of the base.

Rubio agreed to the invitation to be the keynote speaker of CPAC in Feb.

Crist hasn't been asked to speak, though he did get some attention at last year's convention that came just a couple weeks after the governor embraced President Barack Obama and his stimulus package during a Florida rally. People booed the mention of Crist's name, and in a 10-person straw poll of potential presidential candidates, he came in dead last.

Marco Rubio has received some major endorsements from the core of the conservative movement.

Crist's run for senate is hurting the GOP establishment in Florida. I think he may finally get it!

As a political junky, I can smell the failure that the Crist camp has tried to endure. They are floundering. I expect a huge announcement within the next 10 days if not sooner. I also expect Crist to endorse Rubio which will be followed by an endorsement of Rubio by Former Governor Jeb Bush. ( I can dream can't I?)

Note: Along with the support of the base, Rubio will enjoy a huge increase in contributions from the Club for Growth and CPAC endorsements.

Update 9:00pm--Just a thought. Smells like negotiations between Rubio and the Crist camp are going on...
The Rubio campaign's charlieandobama site has been down since the day after it was launched. That is almost when both campaigns started to "make nice. Greer is getting a lot of heat along with the other "establishment" types in Florida. Charlie the "pragmatist" may be playing the role of a Lindsey Graham just to save his own bacon and run for Gov...(just a thought)

Chalk up another straw poll victory for Marco Rubio. He garnered 86 votes to Gov. Charlie Crist's 4 votes during a straw poll today hosted by the Okaloosa Republican Exec Committee.

This makes 13 in a row by huge margins for Marco Rubio. To call it a trend would be an understatement. It is a movement at this point.

Conservatives are rallying around Marco Rubio in huge numbers. That, combined with the fact that Independents are moving towards the Right is a positive for Rubio and conservatism.

Changes among political independents appear to be the main reason the percentage of conservatives has increased nationally over the past year: the 35% of independents describing their views as conservative in 2009 is up from 29% in 2008. Frankly, I kind of look at it like Florida taxpayers' dollars coming back to the state to benefit them. ... We've go to fight for Florida first. That's all we did here."

Crist, on the picture of himself and Pres. Obama hugging that Ex-state House Speaker Marco Rubio's (R) has on his website: "I think it's important to understand where we were at that time. That was back in February, less than a month after the president was sworn into office, the first time he visits our state. And I was pragmatic, I think, about what we needed to do. Everybody knew the bill was going to pass. I, like all other Republican governors, utilized that money for the benefit of the people in my state. And that's what a pragmatic conservative does. ... And I think it's important to understand that you need to fight for jobs, you need to fight for the economy, do what you think is right for the people."

The NRSC dumps Florida senatorial candidate Charlie Crist until after the primary?

It seems that the NRSC can not seem to make up it's mind about the Florida senatorial race between current Gov. Charlie Crist and his challenger conservative republican Marco Rubio.

On May 7th, 2009 NRSC Chairman Cornyn told the Politico:

“All the signals I’ve been getting is that he probably will [get into the race], but I don’t want to make any announcements for him, because he’s the one who will ultimately decide whether to pull the trigger or not,” said Texas Sen. John Cornyn, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

But Cornyn added that he will not intervene in a contested primary, in which Crist would be facing former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio. Rubio, a conservative Republican, announced his candidacy Tuesday and has been critical of Crist for supporting President Barack Obama’s stimulus proposal.

That turned out to be a flat out lie. Five days later the NRSC endorsed Crist even though Rubio was already in the race for senate.

National Republican Senatorial Committee will be endorsing Crist, according to a senior Hill operative, marking the first time it has taken sides (for a non-incumbent) in a competitive GOP primary this election cycle.

NRSC chairman John Cornyn made the endorsement official this morning, casting Crist as the most electable candidate to hold the seat for the GOP.

"While I believe Marco Rubio has a very bright future within the Republican Party, Charlie Crist is the best candidate in 2010 to ensure that we maintain the checks and balances that Floridians deserve in the United States Senate," Cornyn said in a statement.

Today the Politico reports that the NRSC will not give Crist any money until after the Primary.

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (R-Tex.) says he won't channel cash into any primary pitting Republican vs. Republican -- including the heated Florida Senate primary between Marco Rubio and Gov. Charlie Crist.

"As far as what's happening in specifically Florida -- we made a decision to endorse Gov. Crist at his request. But we'e really not involved in the primary," Cornyn told Manu. "That's up to the voters in Florida."

When he asked Cornyn, "But you are at least raising and spending money for Crist?" Cornyn shot back --

"No, we won't be doing any of that until after the nomination. Our job is to elect Republicans so voters in Florida will have a chance to sort that out."

It would seem that NRSC has learned a lesson or two from the Tea Party people and last nights elections in NY,NJ, and Va.

BTW- I did not know that you could request an endorsement from the NRSC...

I just read this quote from Cornyn:

Cornyn said the NRSC is only endorsing in races where — like in Crist’s case — the candidate specifically requests its stamp of approval. He said that — notwithstanding any endorsements — his group would even offer advice on hiring and strategy to GOP challengers, like Rubio, who haven’t been endorsed.

Does this mean that if Rubio "asks" for an endorsement from the NRSC that he would actually get it?

If I were the Rubio campaign I would request an endorsement and see what actually happens.

On "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos, conservative writer and commentator George Will said of Florida's conservative senatorial candidate Marco Rubio, "ABSOLUTELY, HE WILL WIN GOINGAWAY."

He also said that Independents are moving to the right in droves.

This follows a story written by Rubio for the National Review in regard to the NY23 race. It's easy to understand that Rubio gets it and that he has continued to stick to his message of "conservative principles". It seems to be working.

Heffley originally denied that he was involved.

Florida conservative candidate Marco Rubio appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe today. There were some interesting exchanges between the "hosts" and Rubio.

Dan Senor: All of the Washington Republicans are supporting Crist and I think it is going to blow up in their faces!

Rubio: I think what is going on is that people are tired of apologizing for their principles.

Rush Limbaugh: It has Begun

In six short minutes, Rush Limbaugh summed up exactly what I have been thinking for months now.

Although he did not mention Florida's Senatorial candidate Marco Rubio (R) by name, he did mention the race in Florida in which "conservatism is on the rise". Is that an endorsement of Marco Rubio? Rubio is the only conservative in the race for US senate in Florida for 2010. His rival, Gov Charlie Crist, is widely considered a moderate at best.

This coupled with fact that Rush was in attendance during a Marco Rubio Fundraiser at the West Palm Beach restaurant Pistache in September may be a big hint as to where Limbaugh's instincts have taken him. I am not saying that Rush has endorsed Rubio (yet). But I am saying that it is easy to deduce his thought process in regards to his hopes for the outcome of the Florida senate race based on what he is saying.

Conservatism on the Ascendency

RUSH: ... In the first hour today we had this from Rasmussen Reports: "73% of Republican voters say congressional Republicans have lost touch with their base. Just 15% of Republicans who plan to vote in 2012 state primaries say the primary's representatives in Congress have done a good job representing Republican values," and that would be conservative values. So you're not alone. You're among 73%. Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum have now thrown down in the New York election. They have endorsed Doug Hoffman. Talk radio has thrown down, ditto Florida. Conservatism is in the ascendancy. Conservatives are ascending, money is flowing and we're turning a corner...

These "Republicans first" and these Republicans-in-name-only, these people who claim that they want to be moderate Republicans, "That's the only way we're ever going to be win the broad-based election," are just missing the point. I don't know what's so hard to figure out about going back to 1980 and 1984 and looking at the results. Sarah Palin is defying the party. Rick Santorum is defying the party. Forty-nine percent say no health care reform better than the current plan. This also from Rasmussen. Slowly we creep, my friends, to getting a majority of people who understand. "Forty-nine percent of voters nationwide say that passing no health care reform bill this year would be better than passing the plan currently working its way through Congress." I think it has begun.

Charlie Crist Loses Cato's Grade A Tax Rating

Current Florida Governor and US Senate candidate Charlie Crist has been touting his "A" grade on tax policy from the Cato Intsitute in his latest radio ads.

Cato Institute's Tax Policy Director Chris Edwards is now having second thoughts about that rating.

In an email sent out by Edwards he rescinds his original evaluation of Crist's tax record and points out that the evaluation was made much earlier and before Crist decided to raise taxes on Floridians.

From an Edwards email:

According to the Herald’s Naked Politics (October 16), Gov. Charlie Crist is trumpeting his grade of “A” on Cato’s “Fiscal Policy Report Card on America’s Governors.” The governor earned the grade in last year’s report based mainly on his property tax cuts and moderate spending approach.

I am pleased that Crist values Cato’s ratings because we work hard to make them accurate and nonpartisan. But as the report’s author, I am concerned that the governor has fallen off the fiscal responsibility horse since the report was written in mid-2008.
In particular, Crist approved a huge $2.2 billion tax increase for the fiscal 2010 budget, even though he had promised that $12 billion in federal “stimulus” money showered on Florida over three years would obviate the need for tax increases.

About $1 billion of the tax increases are on cigarette consumers, which will particularly harm moderate-income families. The rest of the increases are in the form of higher costs for often mandatory services, such as automobile registration, which is really just a sneaky form of tax increases.

These tax increases will be particularly painful to Floridians in the short-term because of the recession. But Crist has also jeopardized the state’s long-term finances with his expanded subsidies for hurricane insurance. Hurricanes are a major challenge in Florida, but giving big subsidies to coastal property owners, driving private insurers out of the state, and guaranteeing a massive state bailout when the next hurricane hits strikes me as the height of fiscally irresponsibility.

Crist is in a tough battle with former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio for the chance to compete against the Democrat challenger Kendrick Meek. Crist's lead in the polls was cut in half by Rubio this week and Rubio is gaining grassroots conservative support along with an impressive number of contributions to his campaign in the last quarter of over a million dollars.

The momentum is clearly in Rubio's favor at this point and Crist has reason to worry about his bid for senate.

Marco Rubio appeared on Fox News' "Happy Hour" program today.

His interview was very informative in the short time he was allowed. It is refreshing to hear a person who knows what he believes in and does not avoid the answer by trying to change the subject.

It's easy for Rubio because he believes in the principles that represents and he is not willing to change them based on popular opinion at the time.

Crist Drops Below 50% in Florida Senate Race

The latest Rasmussen poll for the Florida republican senate primary race has current Gov. Charlie Crist dropping below 50%.

Crist has 49% vs Marco Rubio having 35%. This is the first time that Crist has been below 50% against Rubio and Rubio has been able to cut Crist's lead in half since August.

Rubio is favored among the conservative base and Crist is seen as a moderate...or maybe even a little left of center. Crist has been called a RINO and nick-named "Wind-Sock" Charlie for his changing positions.

In this short audio clip from 92.5 FM Fox News with Mandy Connell, Marco Rubio says that Charlie Crist does not respect the intelligence of the electorate.

His answer was in response to a question about Charlie Crist's radio ads which came out last week.

Crist's ads were deceptive at best and downright misleading when it comes to his record.

The Rubio campaign quickly responded with a countering fact check of the ad and released the following statement.

“Just like government can’t tax and spend its way to prosperity, Charlie Crist can’t fundraise and spend his way into being a conservative. By hitting the airwaves this early in the campaign, it’s clear he’s concerned that his abysmal economic record, embrace of Obama spending policies and Marco Rubio’s rise are a recipe for his defeat. Despite his best efforts to sell himself as a conservative, Charlie Crist can’t fool Floridians who are feeling the pain of the Crist economy and know his record of embracing wasteful stimulus spending, raising taxes and supporting cap-and-trade." -- Alex Burgos, Rubio campaign spokesman

Update: 11-15-09: Marco Rubio Wins 14th Straw Poll in a Row

Last night Marco Rubio succeeded in winning his 14th straw poll in a row against Charlie Crist. Rubio has not lost a straw poll yet and has won all of them by impressive margins.

Some political aficionados are trying to downplay the significance of the Rubio wins but it is clear that there is an underlying current of true conservative enthusiasm within the conservative base.

Former Governor Jeb Bush practically endorsed Marco Rubio during an interview.

Bush said national party leaders should not be trying to push Crist as aggressively as they have. He said Rubio deserved a fair shot against Crist in a primary.

"I think he should be given a chance. I think that the idea that the national party would pick a winner a year and a half before an election is the wrong way to go."

If Jeb Bush is right and my instincts are correct I think that Charlie Crist may not be as confident in 2010 as he seems to be now. Money can buy you air time but it can not buy you character. That is a lesson that Charlie Crist could learn From Marco Rubio.

Marco Rubio vs Crist in Palm Bch Co. Straw Poll Oct. 14th

The Palm Beach County Republican Executive Committee will hold the next straw poll in Florida's Senatorial race bewteen former House Speaker Marco Rubio and current Governor Charlie Crist on Wednesday October 14th.

Thus far, Rubio has crushed Crist in local straw polls. Rubio has skunked Crist 11-0 in polls across state. Rubio has won by HUGE margins.

Crist may be sensing the heat. He decided to make an unannounced visit to the Pinellas County Republican Party meeting Monday night. This visit may illustrate that Crist is starting to understand that he is not held in great favor amongst many Florida conservatives and so he is scrambling to the right to stop the bleeding.

Crist's contributions dropped by half last quarter while Marco Rubio's contributions nearly tripled to 1 million dollars.

The Palm Beach Post printed the following on Oct. 11th:

Palm Beach County's Republican Executive Committee, which split 65-65 on an August motion to "censure" Gov. Charlie Crist for embracing President Obama's stimulus package and other departures from Republicanism, will conduct a straw poll Wednesday on the Republican U.S. Senate race between Crist, former House Speaker Marco Rubio and six other Republicans.
